It is a medium to large sized bird. The length from the mouth edge to the tail edge is approximately 50 to 125 centimeters. In Thailand, two sub-species can be found which are Silver Pheasant and Chantaboon Silver Pheasant. The male has a long crest on its dark blue head covering to the occiput. The face has the red skin. The feathers on the most upper part of the body and the wings are glossy white like silver. There are black V shaped slim lines on its feathers. The female has the same dark blue crest as the male but just a little bit to be seen. The feathers on the most part of the body are dark brown, the leg is red, and there is no spur.
Can be found in China, Myanmar, Thai, and Indochina. In Thailand, it can be found in the West, the North, the Northeast and the East.
The food is the plant seed, grass, leaves, fruit, insect, worms and ant eggs.
Lives in the mountain forest. It seeks for its food in pairs and does not stay in a troop like the Red Junglefowl. It seeks for its food in the morning and in the nightfall. At night, it will clings on the branch or on the bamboo.Starts breeding when it has the age of 3 years old. It lays 4 to 6 eggs and the incubation period is 23 to 24 days. The female is the only one who incubates the eggs. The newborn chick has puffy hair covering its body. When its feathers dry, it will follow its mother for finding the food.
